How [ chatsubu ] Is Made

OUR PRODUCTION PROCESS

We use this refining process below from the ancient technique called shou sugi ban, to bring out the natural beauty in the woods grain to give you a versatile and material to set your build apart from the rest. Our process and materials used allow for custom options with an extended life.

STêP 1

BURN

We char the wood using our designed flame system. This method is also known as "Alligator Skin".

This step creates the original look of Shou Sugi Ban

BRUSH

STêP 2

The brush system uses traditional techniques to create many unique textures with the wood. We specialize in a range of exposures from traditional to modern styles.

FINISH

STêP 3

We have a large selection of both interior and exterior finishes that will not only increase the durability, but also facilitate your needs. Custom colors available.

STêP 1 : CHOOSE WOOD SPECIES

We offer a variety of wood options because of the differences in grain structure. The more tight the grain, the more structure lines a board will have. Ask us about what type of wood might serve your project best.

JOINT PROFILE OPTIONS

STêP 2 : CHOOSE WOOD PROFïLE

Make sure your final product is ready to apply for the use you need. Select the jointing type you want for your finished product.

SQUARE

Square is generally used for trims and base. Thickness can depend upon desired coverage. It can also be used for interior walls or finishees of your choice.

SHIPLAP

Shiplap refers to the join (4 and 4+) match and are "rabbeted" to overlap each other. It is known for forming a tight seal, but allowing the wood to "breath" with changing seasons and weather.

CHANNEL

Channel pattern provides great weather protection allowing the wood to breath with changing seasons and weather. Channel Generally has a 1/2" lap (4 and 4+) and a 1" - 1 1/4" reveal (2).
