CRUCIBLE'S HISTORY

Crucible's original founders, Tyson and Phil, met prior to forming the company and formed a long lasting relationship. They didn't like how businesses needed to have a human resources department handle the relationships within a company and believed that by having the correct human-based culture and an atmosphere to bind people together, the workers would want to work together too. After researching the cooperative structure, they decided to start their own business using this model. Crucible was formed in 2017 and became Montana's first workers' cooperative. They then began to look for highly talented people who were passionate about the job they were doing.

One of the first pieces created by Crucible was a furniture called,  "Quarry." Since then, Crucible has created a variety of multimedia pieces from residential to commercial, including cabinetry, propane covers, bar tops, chimney caps, desks, doors, foot rails, kitchen hood surrounds, seating, steel paneling, signage, tables, vanities, handrails, and much more.

In August 2025, Tyson was in an accident and suffered a severe head injury. He was unable to recover from the trauma, but was able to give the gift of life to others through organ donation. His memory will continue to live on through every piece that Crucible produces.

In Remembrance

Originally from Lewistown, Montana, former Crucible President Tyson Holland was always passionate about art, design and entrepreneurship. During his time at University of Montana Western, Tyson expanded his expertise and skills studying graphic design and glassblowing. In subsequent years, he gained experience in the construction and welding fields, giving him the skills to physically create his artistic inspirations.

After working for various organizations and going through other business ventures, Tyson had a need to start anew. He desired to focus on people, their inherent value and the power of a common goal and decided to form Crucible with his business partner, Phil Munson.
